Copenhagen's Færgehavn Nord
Færgehavn Nord, a temporary marina, which replaces Copenhagen’s Svanemøllehavn during the construction of the Nordhavn Tunnel, is an example of sustainable and functional architecture. In close collaboration with Rambøll and commissioned by the Danish Road Directorate, Schønherr has designed the marina with a strong focus on reusability, ensuring that all elements can be relocated and reused. Timber-clad containers with integrated seating niches and large windows create an atmosphere of calm and openness while making club life visible to passersby.
The buildings are elevated to 2.6 m above sea level to with stand seawater and extreme rainfall, while a 400-meter-long breakwater protects the 600 berths from flooding, securing robust climate adaptation. The marina is situated adjacent to the ferry port’s existing quay structures, secured to 2.0 m above sea level.
Social sustainability is supported through a series of large wooden decks and rooftop terraces by the clubhouses, inviting community gatherings and allowing users to enjoy views over the Øresund and the marina. Schønherr actively facilitated the involvement of the sailing clubs, focusing on land facilities, slipways, boat cranes, and welfare amenities, thereby ensuring a strong community in a temporary yet vibrant harbor.
