ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE
A society’s strength is measured not only by its buildings, but by the roads and systems that connect its people.
Schønherr contributes to the cohesion of the welfare society by shaping roads, bridges, harbours, and resource facilities as integrated, functional, and aesthetic infrastructures that connect people, landscapes, and cities.
SUPPLY, ENERGY AND RESOURCE FACILITIES
Renewable energy and recycling are not just about science — they are about vision, innovation, and the future we want to build.
Schønherr designs technical infrastructure with a focus on functionality, safety, and spatial quality. In collaboration with waste and recycling operators, we develop intuitive and efficient resource centres, informed by in-depth analysis of logistics, safety zones, and heavy vehicle circulation.
We integrate reused materials into the architectural structures as a means of communicating circular economy principles and reinforcing the facility’s educational potential.
Our services also include the planning, communication, and landscape integration of green infrastructure such as transformer stations, district heating plants, solar farms, and wind turbines. The objective is to generate tangible value for local communities through strong spatial anchoring and architectural coherence.
Through early-stage stakeholder engagement - using methods such as the Schønherr Method - we ensure democratic processes and deliver technically robust solutions that are perceived as positive and integrated elements of the surrounding landscape.

INFRASTRUCTURE, ROADS, BRIDGES AND TUNNELS
Roads connect not only places, but also people and stories.
Schønherr provides consultancy in the analysis, planning, and design of transport infrastructure - including rail corridors, roads, bridges, light rail stops, tunnels, and pathway systems - with a focus on functionality, spatial quality, and seamless landscape integration.
We develop mobility solutions that prioritise sustainable transport, traffic safety, and multimodal connectivity. This includes bicycle infrastructure strategies, coherent trail networks, safe crossings, and clear wayfinding elements that support both daily commuting and recreational movement.
We design mitigation measures such as terrain modelling, planting schemes, and acoustic barriers for rail and road infrastructure, and plan access roads and maintenance zones.
Even large-scale technical facilities are sensitively integrated into urban and rural landscapes through refined grading, vegetation design, retaining structures, and portal elements.
Accessibility is fundamental: we apply universal design principles and movement pattern analyses to create inclusive paths, ramps, and public spaces in both urban and natural contexts.
PORT EXPANSIONS AND COASTAL INFRASTRUCTURE
“We do not sail because there is an ocean. We sail because there is a harbour.”
– Carsten Jensen
When Schønherr develops harbours and coastal areas, it is done with respect for the site’s history and a clear focus on future needs. Transformations, whether shifting from industrial use to housing, adapting to climate change, or expanding boat capacity, require a careful balance between technical infrastructure, public access to the water, and local identity.
At Schønherr, we create long-term solutions that unite transformation with urban space and coastal landscape. We integrate storm surge protection into promenades and plazas, provide access to the water through bridges and bathing facilities, and treat technical elements with beauty and robust craftsmanship.
Through citizen engagement and local insight, we create coherence between function, experience, and cultural heritage.
