Strøby Egede
Schønherr has led a vision and strategic process for Stevns Municipality that integrates coastal protection, urban development, and a nature park in Strøby Egede – a low-lying coastal town in South Zealand, exposed to both storm surges and rising sea levels in Køge Bay, as well as the flood threat from the nearby Tryggevælde River.
Based on technical analysis, drone surveys, and Scalgo data, animations were developed to illustrate and thereby communicate the consequences of flood risk for residences, infrastructure, recreational areas, and nature. This communication media has been central to creating a shared understanding and establishing a solid foundation for long-term solutions – in contrast to the local emergency measures that have already proven inadequate.
The vision for Strøby Egede links climate adaptation with holistic urban development, new recreational connections, and better access to the coast – natural processes that are an active part of the climate solution.
The project integrates a high degree of citizen and stakeholder involvement. Residents, homeowners’ associations, and local organisations contributed to weighing scenarios, dilemmas, and financing models that Stevns Municipality is now further developing.
