Ørodde Landscape Park
Ørodde, near Nykøbing Mors, is a narrow peninsula gifted to the town’s citizens by King Christian I. For centuries, it has framed the harbour area and hosted a variety of changing functions. Today, it appears as a scenic landscape of coastline, protected forest, clearings, and views toward the fjord. The vision for Ørodde Landscape Park – The King’s Gift – is rooted in the aim to enhance the site’s landscape qualities and to create new opportunities for experiencing the contrasts of nature throughout the year.
The plan focuses on nature protection, climate adaptation, and on balancing use and preservation. High groundwater levels, coastal dynamics, and protected forest are regarded and approached as valuable resources. The three stages of development include green axes, new wetlands, improved access to the water, and operational adjustments that increase biodiversity while safeguarding the area’s recreational value for the future.
The development has been shaped through an extensive participatory process, where citizens and local stakeholders took part in workshops, presentations, nature safaris, and “postcards from the future.” These inputs were combined with analysis of sports and community life, historical traces, and spatial experiences. This dialogue led to consensus on a shared vision. The establishment of the Ørodde Association ensures local ownership, while new gathering points such as an event space, bathing site, and support hubs along the coast strengthen community life. The plan was unanimously adopted by the city council, anchoring Ørodde as a green, open, and unifying landscape close to the city.
